How do you recognise a good sofa?

Beaware of cheap copies! There are many sofas out there which fit the saying: you cant tell a book by looking at its cover. All the basic elements in a good sofa are of high-quality and in harmony with each other. A sofa which has been built with durable elements and with expertise will brighten up your life for decades to come - quality never goes out of fashion.

The soul of a good sofa is a durable and light frame

We guarantee the high quality of Pohjanmaan sofas by building the frame ourselves. It is made of Finnish, densely grained softwood and birch plywood. We dry the stem wood ourselves to ensure the right moisture level. Correctly handled stem does not shrink or twist. After drying, the wood is sawn and planed to the right size and shape. We give our sofas a 10-year frame guarantee.

Comfort is based on the right springs

Pohjanmaan sofa frames have been made using tempered nozag steel springs or pocketed spiral springs together with high-quality, shape-retaining padding. Sturdy springs ensure comfort when sitting and the durability of the product.

Padding crowns the comfort

We use high-quality foam, polyurethane foam and wadding as padding. Padding materials are carefully selected for different parts of the sofa depending on the strain that part gets. For example, on the seat we use springy, suitably thick foam. All our foam and wadding materials are Freon-free and strain, fire and allergy tested. The glues used in gluing are durable and smell-free.

Skill in upholstery is the final straw

The upholstery material is either leather or fabric, but outside that the possibilities are almost infinite. It is worthwhile thinking about your situation in life and the usage of the sofa. For example, the lightest material might not be suitable for a family with small children or pets.

The upholstery process emphasises the expertise of the maker. The workmanship is obvious in the finished product, and experts can influence the character of the sofa. The makers of Pohjanmaan sofas utilise highly developed tools which, for their part, guarantee the high-quality of the work.
